Placki Ziemniaczane is a popular Polish dish that is also well-known outside of Poland. These potato pancakes are easy to prepare and make a perfect breakfast, brunch, or side dish. Here is a simple recipe to create your own flavorful Placki Ziemniaczane and enjoy their delightful taste and texture.

Preparation:

1. Peel and grate 4 medium-sized potatoes on the coarse side of the grater. Set aside.
2. Finely chop 1 onion. Set aside.
3. Crack 2 eggs into a bowl and lightly whisk them. Set aside.
4. In a separate bowl, combine 4 tablespoons of wheat flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper. Set aside.

Ingredients:

– 4 medelstora potatisar
– 1 lök
– 2 ägg
– 4 msk vetemjöl
– 1 tsk bakpulver
– 1 tsk salt
– 1/2 tsk svartpeppar
– Olja eller smör för stekning

Cooking:

1. In a large bowl, combine the grated potatoes and finely chopped onion.
2. Add the beaten eggs and mix well.
3. Add the flour mixture and mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined and form a smooth batter.
4. Heat a little oil or butter in a frying pan over medium heat.
5. Place small portions of the potato batter in the pan and flatten them with the back of a spoon to form flat pancakes.
6. Fry the pancakes for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
7. Remove the pancakes from the pan and let them drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Serving tips:

Serve Placki Ziemniaczane hot with sour cream, applesauce, or lingonberry jam. You can also top them with freshly chopped parsley or dill for extra flavor and color. These potato pancakes can be served as a main dish alongside a salad or as a side dish to meat, fish, or soups.
